Our Commitment to Advancing Indigenous Australians in AU-US Bilateral Relations
At the Australian-American Young Leaders Forum, we are dedicated to empowering Indigenous Australians to play an active role in shaping foreign policy, with a distinct focus on the Australia-United States relationship. We believe that the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are essential to creating a truly representative and impactful partnership between our two nations. Through our programs and initiatives, we aim to amplify these voices in AU-US dialogues, ensuring that Indigenous perspectives are included in key diplomatic and policy discussions.
Leadership & Representation
We work to increase Indigenous representation in AU-US forums, advocating for the inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in dialogues on shared global challenges and national interests. By providing training, mentorship, and support, we prepare Indigenous Australians to take leadership roles in the bilateral relationship and influence areas such as policy, trade, and cultural diplomacy.
Building Sustainable Networks
Through engagement with Indigenous and non-Indigenous organisations, government bodies, and institutions across Australia, we are building a sustainable network to support Indigenous Australians in bilateral relations. By connecting Indigenous leaders with AU-US networks and opportunities, we aim to foster long-term collaboration and influence that will benefit future generations.
Cultural Advocacy
Indigenous Australians bring unique cultural knowledge, values, and insights that are invaluable to the AU-US relationship, particularly in areas like environmental stewardship, human rights, and innovation. AAYLF is committed to supporting Indigenous Australians in sharing these perspectives with American counterparts, fostering mutual respect, and advocating for policies that reflect Indigenous priorities and strengths.
