AAYLF x AIIA: “Great and Powerful?” Panel at AIIA National Conference 2024

The Australian-American Young Leaders Forum is proud to collaborate with the Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA) for a panel discussion at their National Conference 2024 in Canberra. Titled “Great and Powerful?”, the panel will explore the evolving dynamics of US-Australia relations in the wake of the US presidential election. Featuring prominent experts in diplomacy, defence, and foreign policy, the discussion will focus on key themes such as the future of US foreign policy, Australia’s strategic interests, and navigating geopolitical shifts in the Indo-Pacific.

Panelists:

• Latika Bourke (Moderator): London-based writer, former journalist for *Sydney Morning Herald* and *The Age*  

• Mike Pezzullo: Former Secretary of the Department of Home Affairs, with deep experience in security and policy matters related to Australia's national interests  

• Hugh White:  Emeritus Professor of Strategic Studies at the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre (SDSC) at the Australian National University, a renowned expert in defence policy and international relations  

• Emma Shortis: Senior Researcher at The Australia Institute, specializing in U.S. foreign policy and international security

• Professor Peter J. Dean (AAYLF Delegate): Director, Foreign Policy & Defence at the United States Studies Centre, the University of Sydney
